Superfast North Yorkshire
WHAT WAS THE SERViCE?
The Superfast North Yorkshire project was built around a partnership between North Yorkshire County Council and BT to deliver next generation superfast broadband to the County and also bring together other initiatives to address rural access to better broadband.
WHAT DiD UMi DO?
UMi delivered a package of business support, which included a range of one-day events held regularly in different locations across North Yorkshire and designed to sell the business benefits of adoption. We also administered small grants to businesses for hardware or consultancy up to £700.
Alongside this, UMi also supported by providing outbound calling to eligible businesses and delivering the broader marketing required in the region to engage with eligible businesses.
WHAT WAS THE RESULT?
The overall impact of the project reported directly to us was strong. Even after adjusting the claimed GVA and job figures, the business support service met its targets. Each estimated and expected FTE job created cost £34,600 while £6.15 of GVA was estimated to have been created for the local economy for every £1 invested.
It was reported that the investment in business support was considered to have been an important factor in driving the adoption rates and also raising the awareness of how digital technologies can deliver business improvement.
